Do Discount Prescription Eyeglasses really Cost Less Online? :Review
My husband and I go for an eye exam every 3 years or so. I know they recommend yearly eye-exams but really, who could afford a new pair of eyeglasses every year. I sure can’t. Well, Hubby and I waited 3 years this time and sure enough, I balked as the clerk tallied the price. $$
I know, I know, I’ve seen all those banners and ads about Discount Prescription Eyeglasses Online. But, I’m no fool– ( 20% Off Prescription Sunglasses

How in the world could you buy Eye Glasses Online?
- What if they don’t fit after you receive them?
- What if you don’t like them; the way they fit or look?
- More importantly, what if they misread your prescription and you can’t see?
That’s a lot of “what-ifs” when you are about to drop $250.00!
I have more than a few doubts about Discount Prescription Eyeglasses Online
So off we go to the Vision Center. (Which one–will remain nameless)
Hubby and I are both retired and receive Medicare. Hubby’s Medicare paid a small amount on his entire package including the eye-glasses.
But I’m on Medicare with a Supplement, (because I have COPD and many more medical expenses than Hubby has) which means my Medicare pays a big fat O! on any eye glasses I might purchase.
I was suspicious already and as she tallied my bill, I felt like hyperventilating. How much had rates risen during the past 3 years?
I cheated a peek at the clerk’s price sheet as I wiggled into the swivel chair in front of her and the mirror. She slid fashion eye-glass frames toward me and my mouth dropped open.
I ask, “Is that $450.00?” as I push back the frames and stab a finger on top of the current total on her price sheet $450.00. “Are you kidding me?”
“Wait! No,” she says. “I haven’t added your Progressive Bi-focals yet.”
Mostly, I couldn’t believe she actually smiled while she said it.
“We have to choose your frames now.” Another dumb smile from her, while my mouth hangs open, “then we’ll add the Progressive lenses and give you a total.”
Pulling my lips together, I ask “How much is the eye-exam?”
“The eye-exam?” She looks puzzled. “Well, your insurance covered all but $18.00.” Another dumb smile, like I didn’t realize what she’d done.
“Okay,” I say and push the Fancy Sophia Loren Eyeglass frames that I want so badly back toward her. “I’ll just take the Eye Exam, thank you.”
She looks startled, Hubby too, now his mouth hangs open… I open my wallet and plop a credit card onto the counter.
My head is spinning. I’ve seen those adds online. They hang out on my sidebar on Facebook. Glasses online are only $49.00. I can wear those. I work at home. No one will see me. I will wear those glasses and never leave the house again. Well, if I can actually see out of them. Oh, my nervous stomach is hurting.
I smiled, paid $18.00 for the balance on the prescription and walked out. Hubby is aghast. “No worries,” I toss over my shoulder, “I can get a pair online. They advertise them all the time.”
What I didn’t tell him was that I hadn’t tried mail-order glasses before because I thought the idea was ridiculous. How could you create glasses without seeing the person you’re fitting them to. Well, I’d just find out I decided. And I did!
Getting Eye Glasses Online is about the simplest and smartest thing I have ever done.
Once you choose the frames you like best, which is absolutely fun! It really is. There are so many choices, you will have no problem finding a pair of Eyeglass frames that suit you best.
Believe me, I am hard to please and changed my mind 5 times but I found the perfect glasses for me within an hour. Actually, there was a larger variety to choose from Online than at the Vision Center.
Once you choose the Frames you prefer, then you are ready to place your order. There are a few measurements that need to be checked and listed. Simply follow the instructions to measure the width of your frames, and the distance between your eyes, etc.
A note: the measurements entered are in millimeters rather than inches, so I found a tape measure that showed both and pulled up a converter on my computer to get those numbers.
Next there will be a form to enter the numbers from your Prescription. The Online Prescription Eyeglass Store that I purchased from required a Prescription no older than 1 year. I would expect that to be average for most. The Prescription Form is similar to the square box on your own prescription and the numbers required are specific and easy to find.
I worried about getting the prescription listed correctly, but I had no trouble at all and I wear Progressive Bi-focals. Once received, my eyeglasses were perfect.
You might also check the Prescription Eyeglass Online Store that you choose for warranties, etc. The one I chose offered a 1 Year warranty. If not happy with frames, or the Vision, I could return my purchase for a full refund.
The next thing is shipping, and that was the most astounding to me! I received my new eyeglasses in 4 days. And they included a pair of snap-on (magnetic) sunglasses as a free gift.
Hubby purchased his eyeglasses locally and waited for 12 days to receive them.
I’ve had my new Eye Glasses several months now and I’m totally happy. The frames fit, the prescription is right-on. The only adjustment I made was to tilt one of the center pads on my nose.
And my total Expense for Brand new Progressive EyeGlasses with a super sexy frame plus free sun glasses included was $198.00
(That was less than my Eyeglasses 3 years ago)
