Why it Cost $111.00 to Close my Ebay Store
Did you know Ebay Store subscriptions are yearly? Not monthly! I had no idea.
I’ve paid for two Ebay stores since the age of Beanie Babies and Pez Dispensers. The cost of my store is added to my Ebay bill monthly. Doesn’t that mean it’s a monthly fee, or –I signed a one year lease for my store without realizing?
I must admit, I get lots of mail from Ebay that goes directly into “you know where.” If I read it all, I would not have time to list my items. But for more than a decade I’ve had Ebay stores and for most of that time, I’ve had 2 Ebay Store Subscription.
My main Ebay Store subscription – “Sandys Gingham Country” – has been open for 13 years consecutively. My second Ebay Store subscription – “anonymous” – has been opened and closed numerous times over 10+ years.
My main Ebay Store subscription showcases my handmade Pillow shams, Pillows and Decorated Hand Towels.
For many years I sold a generous list of Ralph Lauren Bedding and Fabrics along with my Custom-made Pillow shams as an accessory. As Ralph Lauren stores in the West began to close, my inventory dwindled. For awhile, I sold Ralph Lauren fabric acquired from a friend in the North East. For many of the last few years, though, I’ve listed only my hand made items and Vintage Sewing Patterns.
To sort my Inventory, it was beneficial to have two stores. A main Store and smaller co-ordinate store.
As far as I knew, both subscriptions were monthly. Often, I would close the smaller store in the summer while shoppers were busy with other things; mostly vacations and children out of school. Then I would reopen in the winter when shoppers were planning for the holidays ahead and filling their baskets with goodies. I never had an issue closing/opening my store, nor reopening a brand new store subscription.
Since my health issues began in the fall of 2011, I’ve been quite neglectful of My Second Ebay Store subscription and my sales have dropped exponentially.
When last months sales dwindled to $24.00 and my closing fees were $38.00, I knew this Ebay Store subscription had to go. I determined to add all the remaining merchandise into 30-day fixed price and close the store subscription for the winter.
With the Fixed Price relist finished, I went to my Subscription menu and checked – “close my Ebay Store subscription.”
- I should have heeded the first warning! “Your yearly subscription doesn’t end until July.” What? No, that can’t be right. I pay by the month.
I hit “End Store Subscription anyway”
- Next Warning: “All of your listings will be ended as you no longer have a store, and relisted as Fixed Price.”What? You don’t have to have a store to list Fixed Price. Then it dawned on me! Too late!
- As I hit “End Store Subscription anyway!” I felt a pain in the pit of my stomach as I watched helplessly– 100+ listings were ended / then relisted at a much higher (No Store) rate! Yikes!
When all was said and done. To save myself a little money on a monthly fees with no merchandise sold–
Cost $111.00 to close a non-earning Ebay store subscription
Think before you close your Store! Heed each of Ebay’s warnings:
“Don’t Do it without fore thought!”
Since Money is tight around here!
